About me:
I was born in a small mountainous town in Southeast China. When I was young, I was amazed by the succinct of math and physics, the power of computer programming, and the imagination from astronomy and geography. Then I moved to Wuhan and spent 4 years in Wuhan University for my undergraduate engineering degree in Remote Sensing. I have built a comprehensive understanding of remote sensing, photogrammetry, and geographic information systems through my undergraduate subject courses, but also selected many optional courses from social science and humanity (i.e. history and philosophy) to broaden my understanding of the world. I still remembered how excited I was when I first read a conference proceeding (空间综合人文学与社会科学研究) about how to use GIScience to tackle social science and humanity problems in my junior year in the college. That made me decide to pursue this topic in my future career.
I joined the GeoDa Centre/Spatial Analysis Research Centre in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning in the Arizona State University (ASU) in 2013 in the United States. Fortunately, I have learnt the cutting-edge GIScience, spatial analytics, statistics, and optimization knowledge and skills from the world renown experts in both the geography and industrial engineering department. I have been involved in multiple different research projects funded by NSF, NASA, NIH, AAG, ASU, and Piper Trust in the 6 years periods of time in Arizona. I need to express my deep gratitude to my Ph.D. advisor, Prof. Elizabeth Wentz, for her continuous support during my life in Arizona.
After my North American journey, I joined the Urban Big Data Centre and Urban Studies in the University of Glasgow in UK in 2019 (a new journey in Western Europe!!). Now, I focus on making our cities more livable and sustainable for human beings by using urban sensing, new forms of urban big data, and advanced urban analytics methodologies.
